Salzburg Festival

The Salzburg Festival is regarded as the most important cultural event in the city of Salzburg and attracts over 250,000 visitors every year. The six-week festival includes the Whitsun and Summer Festivals and offers an extensive drama, opera and concert program with over 200 events during the 44 festival days. Since 2017, the Salzburg Festival overseen by Markus Hinterhäuser, who, as artistic director of what may well be the world’s most important classical music and performing arts festival, brings stars from the opera, concert, and theater worlds to Salzburg, thus ensuring unforgettable cultural highlights.

The Best of Culture and Society: A Tightly Knit Program

July and August in Salzburg are dominated by the Salzburg Festival, a tightly woven social program consisting of premiere celebrations, gala evenings, and receptions around the opera, theater, and concert worlds. An integral part of the Salzburg Festival is the Jedermann am Domplatz, which has been performed since the festival was founded, works by Mozart and Strauss, and the Vienna Philharmonic, which has performed the majority of orchestral concerts since 1922. The balanced program of the Salzburg Festival offers something to suit every taste and in summer attracts guests from all over the world as well as many locals to Salzburg.

Since 2012, the Salzburg Festival has closed out with the glamorous Festival Ball in the Felsenreitschule.
