Green Key at Sacher

Sustainability has been part of everyday life at Sacher for decades. It is not a destination to be reached, but a journey we take together. As a family-run company, we look beyond the present and take responsibility for our guests, our employees, the environment and future generations. The Green Key certification of Hotel Sacher Vienna and Hotel Sacher Salzburg marks another important step on this journey. With this certification, both hotels are now also recognized as sustainable hotels by The Leading Hotels of the World.

Green Key

Internationally recognised for sustainability

Green Key is an international sustainability certification programme for hotels and other tourism establishments. Its criteria are developed by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and cover areas including environmental management, energy and water consumption, waste reduction, responsible procurement, social responsibility and sustainability awareness. Certified establishments are assessed against clearly defined criteria and undergo an independent evaluation as part of the certification process. Today, more than 9,000 establishments in over 90 countries worldwide are Green Key certified. Since 2026, both Hotel Sacher Vienna and Hotel Sacher Salzburg have been certified by this renowned international sustainability programme.

Sustainability at the Sacher Hotels

At Sacher, responsible hospitality is shaped by many choices in our daily operations. Hotel Sacher Vienna and Hotel Sacher Salzburg continuously work to reduce their environmental impact, including through 100% green electricity, improved energy efficiency, reduced waste and water consumption, more sustainable packaging, digital solutions and measures to reduce food waste. Environmentally conscious amenities, vegan options and Sacher’s own beehive complement these efforts. 

 

Our guests are also part of this journey. Whether through the mindful use of energy and water, avoiding waste or choosing more environmentally friendly forms of transport such as cycling, many small decisions can make a meaningful contribution. Our aim is to make more sustainable choices as simple and comfortable as possible, while preserving the highest standards of quality for our guests.
