150 years of Hotel Sacher Vienna stand for a lived tradition combined with continuous renewal, as well as for the passion and excellence of the many people who have shaped Sacher over generations. Both guests and employees. It is thanks to them that we are able to stand here today.
To mark the beginning of the anniversary year in March 2026, Hotel Sacher Vienna presents two sculptures by internationally renowned Austrian artist Erwin Wurm at the hotel entrance: “Step Big” and “Dancer”, oversized bags on long, slender legs that walk and dance. The installation will remain in front of the hotel until November and is conceived as a poetic reflection on the “invisible baggage” each person carries, shaped by origin, history, and experience. At the same time, this collaboration highlights Sacher’s close connection to art and culture.
To mark its anniversary, Hotel Sacher Vienna brings its history to life through a series on social media. Starting in April 2026, monthly episodes of a short film combining animation and live action will be released, telling stories from 150 years of the hotel’s history. From the creation of the Original Sacher-Torte and the opening of Hotel Sacher Vienna in 1876 to defining moments up to the present day. The episodes will be available on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.

To mark the anniversary, numerous international personalities send their congratulations to Hotel Sacher Vienna, including Wolfgang Puck, John Malkovich, Katherine Bernhardt and Nadine Leopold, as well as many other representatives from the worlds of art and culture, business and society. These diverse messages highlight Sacher’s long-standing role as a social meeting place with international presence and can be viewed on Sacher’s social media channels.
During the anniversary year, employees share personal insights into their daily work and recount special moments at Hotel Sacher Vienna in their native languages. From reception and room service to the technical department, this initiative highlights team spirit and diversity. The contributions will be published on Sacher’s social media channels.

With this initiative, we invite guests and Sacher fans around the world to become part of the anniversary. The Original Sacher-Torte travels to remarkable locations across the globe – from Machu Picchu to London and Sydney. Conceived as a crowd action, people worldwide are encouraged to participate by sharing photos: the cake in Antarctica and the desert, across all time zones and climates. Interested participants can sign up and join via this form.
