Spanish Riding School
Tradition on the Lipizzaner horses’ backs
For more than 430 years the traditional way of riding has been taught only at the Spanish Riding School (“Spanische Hofreitschule”) in Austria. There is no other place in the world, where this unique, elegant interaction between equestrian and horse can be experienced. Elisabeth Gürtler, the general manager of the Spanish Riding School and the Sacher enterprise, is the first woman in history to be head of this Austrian cultural institution.
Watch the majestic white horses doing their ballet in the riding school’s baroque atmosphere. You will be surprised and impressed with the pirouettes, high jumps and caprioles performed by the horses. The equestrians, dressed in magnificent outfits, guide the Lipizzaner horses through the performances.
Hard training to perfection
Every day the equestrians and horses train very hard in order to achieve perfection in their choreography. Relaxation and treats round off every training session. Every morning you can watch the animals during their lessons.
Holiday in Piber
The Lipizzaner stallions result from an interbreeding between Spanish and Arabic horses. At the Piber stud in Styria the popular horses are bred. Visit the stud – the doors are open from Monday to Sunday.
Events at the Spanish Riding School
The historic building is a perfect venue for your events and celebrations. A very special tip is the Fête Impériale. A summer ball initiated by Elisabeth Gürtler, the Spanish Riding School’s general manager, and the Sacher Hotels. A fairytale ball, whose net profits are used for the breed of Europe’s oldest cultural horse breed and the Riding School’s preservation. There is already a date for 2012: 6th July 2012.
Visit the Spanish Riding School during your stay in Vienna and experience these majestic horses. We are looking forward to your online reservation.
