Gustav Klimt
Vienna celebrates one of the city's greatest artists
In 2012 Austria’s capital celebrates the 150th birthday of one of the most important artists of the Vienna Secession. Gustav Klimt was one of the founding members of the Viennese Art Nouveau and had a great influence on the Austrian art scene. Today his works are one of the world’s most expensive art pieces, many of which can be seen in Vienna.
During his life Klimt was one of the rather controversial artists. A scholarship allowed him to learn from the best art teachers and quite early he was presented with awards like the emperor prize. As part of the art house “Künstlerhaus” he developed his unique style and founded the Vienna Secession. After a while he had an argument with some of his colleagues, who he considered to be too naturalistic. His international success and his massif influence on art will be celebrated with his 150th birthday in Vienna.
