„Artists’ Collection“ 2009

Prof. Hermann Nitsch designs first edition of Sacher Artists’ Collection

Hotel Sacher presents the first edition of its strictly limited Artists’ Collection – all proceeds to go to charity.

The packaging of the Original Sacher-Torte has been changed for the first time since 1832: the renowned Austrian actionist Prof. Hermann Nitsch has re-designed the classic wooden box for the strictly limited, numbered Artists’ Collection. All proceeds from the new collection will go to charity.

The world-famous Original Sacher-Torte will be available in a unique new packaging for a short period of time from 25 February 2009. “Tradition meets innovation” is the motto of the Sacher’s new Artists’ Collection – its first edition is now presented by Elisabeth Gürtler from the Hotel Sacher Vienna: 1,500 Original Sacher-Torte, packed in a wooden box designed by Prof. Hermann Nitsch and available exclusively at the Sacher Confiserie in Vienna and via the Sacher online shop at a price of 50 euro.

Prof. Hermann Nitsch: for the Sacher and for a good cause

Elisabeth Gürtler and the Hotel Sacher have always had good relations with many Austrian artists. Which is why it wasn’t at all difficult for her to win over Hermann Nitsch – “an Austrian artist of international standing who, together with us, uses his creative energies to benefit a good cause” – for the Artists’ Collection. Prof. Nitsch is equally enthusiastic about the collaboration: “The Original Sacher-Torte is a wonderful invention that you just have to taste and savour. My paintings are something you have to taste and savour with your eyes, so there are some nice parallels here.” The fact that the project will support a charitable cause – one that is connected with animals – was another reason for the socially committed artist to become involved.

Proceeds to help children suffering from cancer

All proceeds from the sales of the limited Artists’ Collection will be donated to the Therapeutic Riding project of the St. Anna Kinderstiftung (children’s foundation). The project was initiated by Kinder-Krebs-Hilfe (Children’s Cancer Aid) of Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland and the Parents’ Initiative at the St. Anna Children’s Hospital/Children’s Clinic at the Vienna General Hospital (AKH) in order to give new hope to children suffering from severe illness. Equestrian therapy helps the little patients to build more self-confidence and to experience a feeling of security and comfort that helps them cope with their illness.

To be continued

With the Artists’ Collection Elisabeth Gürtler has initiated a project that brings together two true Austrian originals to support a good cause. “It is not only the hearts of collectors that will beat faster but also the hearts of the children whom we help with this project,” explained the initiator. The collection will definitely be continued next year – but the name of the artist who will add his unique touch to the Original Sacher-Torte in 2010 is still kept a secret.
